Birth, Postpartum

Jane Bradbury is a Dona International certified doula living in TriBeCa with her husband and their two children. Her life changed five years ago when she gave birth to daughter, Remy. When she passed through the rite of delivery an unexpected gift awaited her, and that gift was a complete and utter fascination with childbirth and motherhood. She discovered that a doula was like a Sherpa, guiding one up the exhilarating yet unpredictable terrain of labor. Someone who you can talk to about the fears of delivery and your swollen, engorged boobs. She started volunteering four years ago at Avail (an NGO), helping as a doula/child birth educator and leading new moms groups. She continued her studies with an assistant midwifery program taught by Dahlyt Berezin Bahr. And she currently writes a blog about her work as a doula on Christy Turlington Burns’ Every Mother Counts website. At births, she not only focuses on the magic and wonder of pregnancy and labor and the joy that awaits you on the other side, but also on the science behind it. The plentitude of hormones that assist you, and the innate intelligence of the body. She uses accupressure techniques, gives a killer foot massage, and is a huge fan of hypno birthing and visualization.  Jane is Irish, so she has the ability to make you laugh when you need to be distracted and to encourage you when you’re disheartened. It's hard work, labor, and a mother needs support during and after the birth. Knowledge is power and choice. And Jane’s greatest compensation is the gift of being a part of one of the most transformative moments of people's lives…the first breath of another little soul entering this magical journey called “life.”
