As far back as she can remember, Joanna has been drawn to supporting families. After college, she spent a decade working with families with special-needs children in Massachusetts. In 2002, she had the immense privilege of her friend's daughter, which propelled her to become a doula. That experience led her to nursing school at SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn and a position as a mother-baby/postpartum Registered Nurse. She currently works in a Manhattan hospital as a Lactation Consultant in addition to her private practice.
Witnessing women transform into mothers, often without the necessary support system at home, inspired her to become an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Her own journey of breastfeeding her daughter and the challenges they faced significantly shaped her approach to helping new mothers. Joanna is passionate about women feeling confident in their decisions about feeding their babies. Her hope is that mothers find breastfeeding to be an enjoyable way to learn about and connect with their babies. Her belief is that no matter how you feed your baby, it can be a nurturing experience for the whole family.
Joanna lives in Brooklyn with her wife and daughter and is preparing for the birth of her second child this spring.
